Two free programs for a computer with an SDR, both built at W2JKT, both for Linux and Windows. They do different jobs: EasySpotter decodes the digital modes and shows you what is on the air, and can also put the receiver on the web; EasySDR only puts the receiver on the web for others to listen to. Pick the one that matches what you want to do.

Spot and share

EasySpotter

Decode FT8, FT4, JS8, WSPR and more on many bands at once, map the openings and watch the activity — and, if you like, share the same receiver on the web. Choose this if you want to see what you are hearing. EasySDR is built in, so you can do both.

Share only

EasySDR

Turn your receiver into a web SDR that anyone can tune from a browser, listed in the W2JKT station directory. Choose this if you only want to share a receiver and do not need the decoding, maps or spotting.

EasySpotter 0.95.12

For spotting — decode and watch, and share too

A receiving station in one program. Decodes FT8, FT4, JS8, WSPR and JTTY on many bands at once, maps the openings live, reads RTTY, Olivia, PSK and CW on their known frequencies, saves weather-fax charts and SSTV pictures, and listens with a waterfall. It includes EasySDR, so the same receivers can be shared on the web at the same time. Works with SDRplay RSP receivers (RSP1, RSP1A, RSP1B, RSP2, RSPduo, RSPdx), the RX-888 MKII and RTL-SDR dongles. 1. Install it:
    • Ubuntu or Debian: sudo apt install ./easyspotter_0.95.12-1_amd64.deb
    • Fedora: sudo dnf install ./easyspotter-0.95.12-1.x86_64.rpm
    • Arch Linux: sudo pacman -U ./easyspotter-0.95.12-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst, then wsjtx from the AUR
    • Windows: run the installer; it sets up the USB drivers for the RX-888 and RTL-SDR dongles itself.
The Linux packages pull in WSJT-X, whose decoders EasySpotter uses.
  2. For an SDRplay receiver, also install SDRplay's API from sdrplay.com. RX-888 and RTL-SDR need nothing more.
  3. Open EasySpotter from your applications menu, press Refresh to find your receiver, tick the bands you want, and press Start.
  4. To report what you hear, enter your callsign and grid square on the Settings tab and switch on PSK Reporter or WSPRnet reporting. Nothing is sent until you do.

EasySpotter is free to use. The program is proprietary; the FT8, FT4, JS8, JTTY and RTL-SDR helpers it ships with are separate GPL programs, with their licenses and source offers in the package's documentation folder. The Windows version is new: if something does not work, press Send diagnostics on the Logs tab, or get in touch.

EasySDR 0.28.2

For sharing only — no decoding or spotting

Turns a computer with an SDRplay, RX-888 or RTL-SDR receiver into a web SDR: pick your devices and bands, and anyone with a browser can tune it, listed in the W2JKT station directory. It is the sharing half of EasySpotter on its own, without the decoders, maps or spotting — for when you only want to put a receiver on the air for others. If you also want to decode and watch the bands yourself, choose EasySpotter above instead.

  2. For an SDRplay receiver, also install SDRplay's API from sdrplay.com. RTL-SDR dongles work through the rtl-sdr package, which installs with EasySDR.
  3. Open EasySDR settings from your applications menu. Tick your devices and bands, and fill in your station's details and grid square.
  4. Forward TCP port 8074 on your router to the computer, then register the station on the settings page. It appears in the directory within a minute or two. Can't forward a port? W2JKT can host your station with a relay key — ask for one.

EasySDR is free to use. This is a first release; RX-888 support needs the receiver's firmware file and is experimental.
